Tinnitus is a common otologic symptom that can cause annoyance and interference with
everyday activities. Most patients describe their tinnitus as ringing, hissing, buzzing,
cricket-like, or escaping steam [

]. Tinnitus is often described as a constant, intermittent, or fluctuating complex
sound. It has been proposed that tinnitus is a phantom auditory perception, ie, the
perception of a sound without any corresponding auditory/vibratory activity in the
cochlea [
